OUR HISTORY

QUICK FACTS

Chi Upsilon Sigma was established on April 29, 1980 at the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers- the State University of New Jersey, thus becoming the FIRST INDEPENDENT Latin Sorority. Our founders are seven Latinas who had the desire to form an organization that would promote leadership in the community and to create a place away from home where members could feel a sense of family, which is a strong force in Latino culture.

The sisterhood is unique in its capabilities to draw in members who embrace our appreciation for family, individuality and collaboration with each other. Our sisters take their dedication to new levels by creating bonds with members across chapters and regions. They recognize this lifelong membership as a highly rewarding experience, in which they impart knowledge and wisdom throughout their encounters with one another.

The Courageous Chi Chapter of Corazones Unidos Siempre Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority, Incorporated was chartered at the Pennsylvania State University on December 9th, 2000 by ONE Courageous woman, Katherine "Masquerade" Santiago-Pagan. Chi Chapter shortly after joined the newly founded Multicultural Greek Letter Council in 2002.

Katherine, Chi Chapter Founding Sister, decided to embark on an amazing journey. It took dedication and hard work but she was determined and accomplished her goal by staying guided and focused. Through her persistence she was able to establish the 22nd colony, of the then, Chi Upsilon Sigma Latin Sorority, Incorporated. She continues to embody what it is to be a Woman of Wisdom. Because of her, the now 36 women of Chi Chapter were able to become apart of the BEST Sisterhood in existence!

Chi chapter prides itself on being diverse home away from home, welcoming women of all cultures and ethnicities. The chapter has established an environment that creates successful women; by teaching them to know themselves, rely on their sisterhood, and providing its members with the necessary tools to be successful, not only academically but professionally.

"Happy CUS Anniversary to my beloved chapter. I can't believe it's been 16 years. It's a blessing to be able to continue to see our chapter grow and all of the individual and collective accomplishments that all of you have achieved. I'm a proud founder and looking forward to many more years with my X family."
